Teacher Cadet Program

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage academically talented, high-achieving, high school scholars with exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal of the Program is to develop future community leaders who will become civic advocates for public education.

The Teacher Cadet Program uses an innovative approach designed to attract talented young people to the teaching profession through a challenging introduction to teaching. The Program seeks to provide high school scholars with insight into the nature of teaching, the problems of schooling, and the critical issues affecting the quality of education in America’s schools.

Course Course Description
Teacher Cadet Class

Prerequisites: Junior or Senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0, Completed Application Process: 5 Teacher Recommendations, Entry Essay, and Interview

Credits: 1 (High School); 3 Hours (College)

This college-level, dual credit course is considered an introduction or orientation to the teaching profession. The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage academically talented, high-achieving scholars with exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal of the Program is to develop future community leaders who will become civic advocates for public education.  Opportunities are provided for scholars to gain factual information about teaching as a profession as well as to observe and experience teaching activities in various school settings. Teacher Cadets are expected to be exemplary scholars and should have no major disciplinary referrals during the school year. Scholars who do not meet this high standard may be dropped from this class. Enrollment in the course does not guarantee college acceptance.
Teacher Assistant – Work Based credit Scholars interested in becoming a teacher will have the opportunity to be a teacher assistant at CCSMS. They will be mentored and be assessed based on the tasks assigned.

Teacher Cadets will also take an Advanced Placement class of their choosing and Psychology.
